Public Relations at The University of South Florida

Starting this year, I began my first sequence into the Mass Communication program as a Public Relations major at The University of South Florida. Throughout my years in college, I could never quite figure out exactly what I wanted to do with my life. (Sound familiar?) Tried nursing; chemistry wasn’t my thing. Tried business; couldn’t stand it. Tried marketing; loved it but didn’t exactly feel right. Tried Public Relations; found where I belonged. The University of South Florida has an amazing Mass Communication program. Recently, they received a $10 million gift from alumni trustee, Jordan Zimmerman, thus renaming the school The Zimmerman School of Advertising and Mass Communication. This will adequately prepare the students of this program to succeed in the future.

Public Relations allows you the opportunity to shape and mold what you’re working with and gives you the tools you need to act diligently in a crisis. It allows me to be creative, strong, and smart. I have grown so much since starting this program and I am so excited to say that I’ll have my diploma one year from now. We, as a class, have been spoken to by different Public Relations professionals. This has given us the opportunity to see life as a Public Relations specialist and has made many of us excited for the future.

I am currently a Wings Team Member (marketing team member) for Red Bull North America and I have used my current knowledge of the Red Bull Brand in my Public Relations class. This has made the subject relatable and has allowed me to be adaptable in this course. This class has pushed me to apply for internships, which eventually led me to be a Social Media Intern at PP+K Advertising Agency. I have learned so much in this course and I can’t wait to see what future courses have in store for me and my peers. I am honored to be a part of The Zimmerman School of Advertising and Mass Communication.

Cheers, mates!
